Stacy Mitchhart Band Live Recording 3/15/10

The Stacy Mitchhart Band is prepping for a big event coming up on Monday, March 15, 2010 at B.B. King's Blues Club, in Nashville, TN.

Mitchhart and his band will record the night's performance for a brand new Live CD, which is set to ship on April 15, 2010. Fans can already place their pre-orders for the CD to have it sent to their home that same day.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Stacy Mitchhart moved to Nashville in 1996 to further his career as a Blues musician, and quickly established himself as the city's premier Blues showman. His band, Stacy Mitchhart and Blues-U-Can-Use attracted fans of all types to his concerts, and his blend of Blues, Soul, Jazz, Funk and Rock influences brought crowds to their feet wherever the band played.

The singer and guitarist has released nine albums (most recently 2009's versatile Grown Ass Man), a live CD/DVD, and starred in the acclaimed documentary Nashvegas Blues. He formed his own record label, Dr. Sam Records, and is a true hustler in every sense of the word, working hard to further the Stacy Mitchhart Brand, as well as the Stacy Mitchhart Band.

With the new live recording, crews will be at B.B. King's Nashville to capture both the concert audio, as well as to videotape the show. More information on this show, and a printout to receive free admission to the taping, is available on the Official Stacy Mitchhart Band Website.

Here's the Trailer For the Documentary Film Nashvegas Blues Starring Stacy Mitchhart

I had the opportunity to catch one of Stacy's shows in 2009, and talk with him between sets, and I can tell you from first hand experience that he is not only an amazing guitarist and fantastic singer, but he is also a very down-to-earth individual who cares deeply about the music and his integrity in a business that has often been known to chew people up and spit them out. I highly recommend you check out a Stacy Mitchhart Band show the next time they are in your neighborhood. - Johnny Full-Time

Delmark Records Gears Up For April Releases

The good folks at Delmark Records, in Chicago, are getting ready to hit the streets with several new releases in the month of April.

Chicago Blues band Mississippi Heat leads the way with their upcoming album, Let's Live It Up, and fans can expect more amazing work from bandleader and harmonica maestro Pierre LaCocque, as well as soul-stirring power from Inetta Visor, as well as appearances by vocalist Rhonda Preston and special guests Carl Weathersby and John Primer.

Let's Live It Up is the third Delmark Records release for Mississippi Heat, and follows 2008's successful Hattiesburg Blues. Let's Live It Up features 14 new, original tunes, with 11 of those LaCocque's own compositions.

Weld's Delmark debut,Burnin' Love, features Dave Weld and company lighting it up with guests Lil’ Ed ,on guitar, the legendary Abb Locke on saxophone, and soul/blues legend Bernard Reed and Herman Applewhite on bass, along with Jeff Taylor on drums and vocals, and Monica Mhyre on vocals.

In addition to both of those releases, the never before available on CD The Life I Love by Willie Buck hits record store shelves in April, as well.

Recorded in 1982, and previously only available as a hard to find LP release, The Life I Love was originally titled I Wanna Be Loved and featured the signature sound of "Chitlin Circuit" regular Willie Buck.

The album has been carefully reproduced for it's debut on CD, and features previously unreleased live recordings as an added bonus, bringing the listener more than an hour of "real deal Chicago Blues."

Mississippi Lawmakers Support The Blues

A bill has been passed through the Mississippi state Senate that will expand the Mississippi Blues Commission's efforts to keep the Blues alive, by helping that state's artists directly.

According to Shelia Byrd of Bloomberg BusinessWeek, the bill had previously passed the state House, and made it's way through the Senate this week. It is set to take effect on July 1st of this year. Under the terms of the bill, the Mississippi Blues Commission is now allowed to "raise private funding for struggling musicians" who live in Mississippi, amending the original law that established the Commission.

The Mississippi Blues Commission currently supports Blues initiatives throughout the state, including the Mississippi Blues Trail, which consists of more than 100 historical markers that trace important people, places, and events in Blues history.

Buffalo, NY Blues Haven Closes

Buffalo, New York's Lafayette Tap Room has heard it's last note, as of February 27, 2010.

According to an article by Samantha Maziarz Christmann, the Tap Room shut down following a sharp decline in business. One of the bar's owners, Dick Manke, informed Christmann that they attributed the drop in clientele to nearby road construction that closed Washington Street, where the bar is located.

The owners are reportedly looking for a new location to house Blues concerts. Christmann's article also mentions that the owners of the Lafayette Tap Room are also aggressively searching for a new home for their catering business, as well.

WBFO's Mark Scott reports that the building that houses the Tap Room, The Lafayette Hotel, will be closing it's doors as well. According to Scott, hotel developer Rocco Termini has notified all remaining tenant's that they must be out, and that the facility will shutter on April 1, 2010.
