2010 I.B.C. Kicks Off With International Flair
Officials with the Blues Foundation are very pleased with the success of Wednesday's FedEx International Showcase, which featured 16 acts from outside of the U.S.
"Just to name a few highlights, the Mandolin Brothers featured not only the mandolin but also the accordion as they put these traditional Italian instruments to work on blues songs. And Harrison Kennedy filled in the final two minutes of his short set with an a capella version of "Give Me Just a Little More Time" the soul classic by The Chairman of the Board, his late 60's soul group. And Tips, the female lead singer for Soulmate from India--well I do not know how to describe her singing and take on the blues but it created the buzz.
If this is any indication of what to expect over the next few days, the 26th annual International Blues Challenge is going to be something to keep an eye (and an ear) on.
I.B.C. Award Nominee In The Blues' First Viral Video
Pat Pepin, one of the finalists for the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge Best Self Produced CD Award, has rode into Memphis this week thanks to her trusty RV.
The vehicle is featured in a new video for Pepin's song, "Living At Walmart," which is featured on the album In It For the Long Haul. The video has gone viral in the short time it's been on YouTube, already racking up more than 10,000 views.
Pepin is not competing in the I.B.C., but you've got a really good chance at seeing her around Memphis this week. And, if you ask nicely, I'm sure she'd let you snap a picture next to her famous RV.
